Arthur Pini : Ten Tricks to Boost Oscilloscope Usefulness

(He's used a Teledyne Lecroy for his examples)

  1. Use the oscilloscope's fast edge feature and math operations to make frequency response measurements.
  2. High pass filter your input signal using the oscilloscopes low pass digital filter
  3. Selectively average only signals with certain shapes or measured parameters
  4. Find intermittent events by using exclusion trigger to acquire only on abnormal events
  5. Use the trend functions and trigger hold off as a self-timed data logger
  6. Demodulating amplitude modulated (AM) signals using your oscilloscope
  7. Demodulation of frequency, phase and pulse-width modulated signals (use track or time-extend function)
  8. Adding a "Max Hold" function to the oscilloscope's Fast Fourier Transform
  9. Calculating the power spectral density of a waveform in unit of V²/Hz
